about Close Distance

Close Distance is a publishing platform dedicated to the poetics of personal narratives and translation. Our aim is to foster expansive thinking around concepts of home within art and language.

Close Distance works closely with multilingual artists, writers and designers to create small edition, hands-on projects that exist both in print and online. Rooted in an international approach, Close Distance is committed to learn from and build community across borders and languages through the connective ability of individual experiences. Following its special interest in digital to analog translation, the platform’s website functions as an online archive that includes poetry, fiction, visual art, sound, documentation and diary among other media. Close Distance curates its program through open calls alongside an author advisory council of emerging and established writers and artists.

Based in Los Angeles, Close Distance hosts an eponymous journal, a digital diary editorial titled August 30, a reading series called Chroma/Chronos, and a forthcoming imprint, Alluvium Editions.

Close Distance is a project of Fulcrum Arts’ Emerge Program. Donations in support of Close Distance are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law under Federal ID 95-2540759.
